The First National Virtual Show 2021 – ‘Springtime’
On behalf of the National Chairman, Katherine Kear, the Board and the National Disciplines we are pleased to announce the first ever National Virtual Show that will take place throughout April 2021. Each week for the first three weeks of April there will be a demonstration, talk and ‘how to’ session viewable on all our various media platforms including the new website. These will be provided by our National Demonstrators, Speakers and Teachers. The full list of these platforms will follow nearer the time.
However the core of the Show, like all Shows that we have had in the past, is a showcase of flower arranging talents and the thinking about planning and entering your designs can start NOW. The Schedule has been published for you to download and peruse and, like all National Shows, you need to book your place in your chosen Class in advance. Because this is a nationwide Show, places are strictly limited and you may enter either ONE or TWO designs, but if you enter twice, this must be in separate classes. THERE IS NO FEE TO ENTER ANY CLASS. The booking window is from 10 to 17 January so you need to think now about which class(es) you would like to enter. There are 12 in all including one reserved exclusively for Juniors. During the last week of April all the judged competition entries (not just the prizewinners) will be on view. The Schedule ‘Springtime’ created by our National Judges Committee has a wonderful variety of 12 classes. A feast to look forward to.
It might help to include a timeline here:
From now: View the schedule and plan which Classes you wish to enter.
Sunday 10 January 2021: First date of submitting your application to email@example.com
Sunday 17 January 2021: Last date of submitting your application to firstname.lastname@example.org.
As soon as possible after this you will be advised whether your application to enter is successful.
To avoid disappointment, do not do any practical work on your design unless and until you have received confirmation of your place in the Class.
Between then and Friday 19 February 2021: Construct and photograph your design
Friday 19 February, 23:59 hours: Final time of emailing your entry

We are delighted to be able to report that past Area Chairman, past national Proof Reader, Area Associate of Honour (and many other things) Shirley Clegg has been awarded an MBE in the recently announced Honours List, for services to the Prison Visiting Service. Congratulations, Shirley.
National Photography Competition 2020 We are delighted and very proud to say that the winner of the Best in Show for the 2020 National Photography Competition was Anne Lindsay (Steeton FC) with her entry in Class 5 “Something Beginning with A”. This was featured, with much fanfare, during the National AGM that took place on Tuesday 6 October. Anne has very kindly given us permission to reproduce the image and here it is. Anne writes: “The photograph was one of over 200 taken at Southport Airshow in 2017. The weather was perfect for the occasion, the crowds on the promenade were massive so it was a case of holding your camera above the heads to capture the Red Arrows display.”
The “A” in question was, of course, “Airshow”. (Or even Red Arrows…)
Not that we want to be up to date or anything, but now that WAFA India has come to a triumphant close the baton has been passed on to New Zealand for the 2023 Show ‘Southern Sojourn’ and their rather good website is up and running.
Two pairs of competitors from New Dimensions Flower Club (Elaine Bedford / Carys Harrison and Susie Marsh / Christine Hinchcliffe) each won Commended in WAFA India class 1 (Broken Lines)
